Timber Protection

The study of wood as a renewable material and organic material is what is known as wood science. In other words, the term wood science can also be known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. The many Merits of timber and these technologies improve wood to be superior over other products. Wood can be applied in very many applications, and this gives it an upper hand over other materials. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.

Protection of wooden structure and products is a must if you want to keep the good looks in place. The biggest threat to wood being moisture and insects has to be kept away from the wood. The moisture courses the timber to decay and the insects eat through the wood. Alkaline copper Quaternary or the ACQ has turned out to be a very effective way wood preservation. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. Although being a good method to use for wood protection it has presents some few challenges. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The concentration of the chemical that will be used to treat a piece of wood will depend on the where it is going to be used and the molecular structure of the wood. The level of chemical concentration will be determined by where the piece of wood is going to be put to use.

The use of copper metal is another method of wood treatment that is fast being accepted. This method, unlike the ACQ, is friendly to the metal fasteners and its gaining popularity very fast. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. The difference between this method and the other copper-based methods is that the copper is used as a metal rather than a dissolved material. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

The micronized copper preservative has proven to be highly effective in protecting the wood against fungal decay and termites. Unlike other methods of treatment this method is not corrosive. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
